At a pickup desk I complimented a piece of art they had on the wall. It was striking, and I liked it. Everyone on the other side of the counter harmoniously agreed when one of the ladies there said, “Want it? It’s yours!” and she pulled it off the wall for me. Within two days I was sick of it. Too strong a flavor.
And then there is my stuff. I absolutely love the pieces I’ve done, but know it lacks the immediate ‘grab you’ impact. After you’ve lived with it (which makes it beautiful) that happens. So I have just the opposite situation as that bold print so eagerly thrust into my hands to take away.
Landscape and car picture rendering style is just fine. My concern is for the people art.
When I was in art school I discovered a sketch in the trash. Clearly two students had sketched each other which was a common excercise. I still marvel at it.
