That inspiration is integral to good art is unarguable. I’m comfortable with the discussion, especially with so many excellent artists relating similar experiences as I’ve known. Kitaro, world renowned, explained that his phenomenal music came ‘through’ him.

There are different flavors of inspiration, as anything else. In it’s purest form comes this abstract which originally popped into my head complete with detailed explanation. It’s unlike anything else I’ve done. That’s unusual. The more common manifestation of inspiration is where I suddenly have the force of a concept demanding it’s place  in my oeuvre and presenting itself plainly enough that I can do the research and get a model and make it happen.  Other times, I have concepts I’ve long wanted to do but have waited on the green light. I’ll meet the right girl to model it, see the place that is perfect for the environ in which to build, or do a photo shoot and identify one of the photos as a perfect point to build a long desired painting around.

The arrival of the “green light” of inspiration is like a starting line, and it feels like a race. From the moment the inspiration received I know that time is limited. Not knowing how long the energy of that force will stay with me, I work at a furious pace to complete the work before it goes. When personal art too large, too time consuming, and the inspiration expires, I put the piece aside. Touching to finish it will now be disasterous. A year, two years, eight years later, the spark becomes a billowing flame and I go back to the composition with a confidence that  creates a monument of beauty. I love this work!
