She was Right

She was right and I told her I was glad she was on duty tonight when I showed up at a Target store to replace my defective George Foreman grill.

Among the other grills was a red round  “Quesadilla Maker” that appealed to me because unlike the grill I was seeking, it’s cooking surface was parallel to the counter top. My grill is tipped so that all the fat and grease in the low grade meat  I’m expected to cook will run out. The problem with that design is that other foods are undone by the slant.

Grilled cheese, for example, will simply leak away. A flat grill would not require two of it’s legs to be perched on things not made for that purpose.

A  store employee showed up as I  pondered whether to get the  tiny GF grill, or a two pattie model.

She said she was partial to the Quesadilla maker because at their house mexican food reigned supreme. I had a favorite tortilla brand, but her enthusiasm for that genre of grub made an opportunity too good to lose. I asked her preference and found out about uncooked tortillas from Costco.

So even though it wasn’t what I’d come for, I bought the appliance and went to Costco for quesadilla-centric ingredients.

I wish to point out that the pig outline was not in the retail packaging, it’s just my interpretation of the shape in the styrofoam packing.

The first quesadilla out of the grill was over packed by me and leaked all over the place. Clean up was amazingly easy, both of the grill and of the plate with the dinner item. She was right, the uncooked tortillas are better!

So now that I’ve eaten and the dishes are washed I can clear headedly recount what was another eventful day.

For many locals, the weather was the biggest part of the morning, but not for me. My car isn’t made for ice driving, but that was only a serious risk in the nieghborhood streets. The arterials were clear and moving at normal speed.

Driving the Miata in inclement weather is a treat. Reminds me of the sports cars I owned in Montana. Even in winter with the hard top  muting outside sounds, the engine sounds magical, like twin motors. Glorious!

At the office after solving mysteries for those whose specialty is not the taming of computers or network printers, I entered into another side of  the business: dealing with people’s unfathomable behaviors.

Imagine those on the other side of this life watching the secret acts of those unwise enough to believe that right and wrong are determined by the gain or whether deeds are found out.

After the end of the shift, I lingered in the empty office to do maintenance and take out the contents of waste baskets to the dumpster.

Then, done at the office and free at last, I traversed the icy roads to visit my near kin.

Seeing the grand children reminded me how children so completely bring out an earnest desire to be ones best.

On the way home from there, I went to Target for the new grill and thankfully had a conversation with a young women about quesadillas.
