I’d run out of fresh ideas, so an appeal was made to the Lotus Europa group on yahoo for their humorous experiences with the car. Nearly every one came as a result of the diminuative size of the vehicle.

Several wrote of driving under a semi with nary a scratch.

One said his lady friend looked out the passenger window and commented that she’d never thought she’d sit in a car and look up to see the door handle on a Corvette.

Says one, “I was washing the car in the yard when a passerby yelled out his car window that it didn’t matter how much I watered that thing it was never going to grow bigger”.

Another, “my buddy was in his S2 (the second generation, with roll down windows and detachable seats) with the bonnet off and someone said he was driving a little El Camino”

I went with the El Camino idea because it’s January, a time when people are deciding to downsize their own bodies.  After trying out some concepts on the theme, I decided to do an ad parody for the new 1971 El Camini. It doesn’t show off the similar lines so well, but I still like the idea.

This one is unique in that to save time so that I could have the drawing done on the first day of the year I built in on an actual El Camino advertisement and simply drew in the Lotus where one of the shots of the Chevy had been.
