The Week Starting October 5
I began this two years ago when Leah was 11. Frankly, the handling of the skin is pretty good for straight acrylics.
I could have stopped here, but I had an entirely different vision. This was to be the underpainting
The flowers and the forest setting didn’t gel as I’d imagined it
I removed the daisy hair piece and added more greenery, but still it didn’t work.
Leah encouraged me to stick with it, so I pulled out my oil paints. It was certainly high time I did, since I haven’t used oil paints for decades.
It didn’t go so well at first, but I went on to recover other paintings with the oils. Some had been waiting for that magic touch for a few years.
I applied a finish style similar to last weeks painting, “Between Songs” Photographed in lighted studio late into the night
With more oil painting experience now, I returned to the portrait and applied an illustration type of style. To liven it up, I put a panel of stained glass behind her.
: ) Back to work.
Monday
I’ve addressed the color problems that left her top looking dirty by lightening it and enhancing the texture of the fabric. Photographed in full sun
Detail You can still see remnants of the now removed daisy wreath. Sometimes I think I’ve painted her too wide eyed, and yet I leave it so.
