A thousand years, a thousand more sheep flocks graze on the land
watched, protected, kept, and loved by caring shepherds hand
Now and then a lamb was lost, though not for long it seems
the shepherd searched the whole day long and found and brought her home.
Always on the watch for them the shepherd guides the flock – to water, grass, and safe abode – the shepherd watches out.
He keeps them safe and loves each one even when it’s tough.
He faces terror full head on when wolves come near to prey.
He drives them out to save the sheep and never lets them stay.
But now the wolves have embassies, ambassadors step in
They shame the shepherds in their work and call it vice and sin.
The wolves, they say, are noble beasts, the shepherds must give in.
Ambassadors work for the wolves, so bit by bit you see
they take the shepherd out – cajole, make fun, and villify
and soon it’s him that’s bad.
The friend to sheep is called a thief that sheep must all avoid
who takes their hair and isn’t fair. Their shepherd’s now destroyed.
Ambassadors still wear their wool and wolves have tummies full
of lost sheep that none could find
They love the lambs too, lol.
