At first, I cartooned for www.Lotus-Europa.com and that is where I really cut my teeth on digital art. Then, in preparation for an art show (that’s what I call it) I branched out. The president of the local Austin Healey club let me in on a gathering of some of their cars at a local high school. I took pictures and did a painting of one of the cars. He pressed me to join their club but I don’t have an Austin Healey. Despite that, I’ve been supplying them with cartoons ever since. It’s a good outlet.
The first car I painted was pretty customized, which I didn’t know until I became more familiar with the marque.
Cartoons are a way of building inventory by forcing me to stay at it and come up with new ideas but association with the clubs puts me in touch with like minded people which I also like.
There’s some merging of ideas going on. I modify automotive cartoons to work with the other marque’s and the faerie art.
Note the faerie concept sketch above. The “Where’s Europa” version is next.
