When there’s nothing in it for you but the fun, you just play. That’s the approach that little Zoe, a three year old grand daughter of friends took when she was invited to sit for a sketch. We never managed to get her to hold still for very long.
Lately I’ve finally taken up the challenge of mastering a drawing style that I’ve admired since childhood. The sketch provided a new face to practice with.
Complicating the endeavor was her appearance: fair haired, fair skinned, wispy hair recently subjected by her to scissors, and delicate features. All difficult for me to render in a real time live sitting. She couldn’t be still, so we took photographs.
Even in studio I had a hard time getting it going the right direction. I feared I’d not succeed on any level but kept at it. The fault certainly wasn’t with her, she was sweet and well mannered.
