In Defense of Hand Writing

Some say it’s a dying art and an unnecessary skill but I disagree entirely. Hand writing is being left out of public education because keyboarding is deemed useful by comparison. This isn’t my first or last post on the subject.

The US Constitution was written by hand, composed without computers and presented as penned from steel quills. Hand writing is a form of speech in that it communicates from my mind through my hand to paper and into your head via your eyes. Sure, keyboarding is an essential means of writing. That has nothing to do with the continued value of hand writing.

Hand writing is not subject taught in all schools anymore.

It should be. It’s an elemental form of expression that works.

How?

Hand writing allows me to convey my thoughts without the filter of a spell checker. It allows me to use what ever words and characters and personal expressions as will convey what I want to say.

It’s not even requisite that you be able to read. Sometimes it’s like thinking aloud but in a language no one else understands. That’s a form of privacy not found in digital expression.

But imagine if you could not find a device to communicate with. All you have is a pen and some paper. Or all you have is a charcoal stick and a piece of wood. With hand writing you can still leave a message.

If you can’t read hand writing, you can’t interpret the message. If you can’t write, you can’t send your message.

I hope hand writing stays alive and viable.
