UnTangled

Larissa is a good sport and willing to risk a live sketching, so we began one. Her hair was plaited expertly but she thought it would make a better sketch to have her hair loose so she tried to undo it. The matter ought to have been simple, but she gave it everything she had without getting it free. Cutting the bits that held it together was not an option that she would consider.

She went at it for ten minutes or so until her dad started offering his expertise. Finally she relented and he got his chance. It wasn’t long before he was dismissed and I succeeded in getting my turn at it. Over and over it seemed just so close, but the combination could not be found and her hair was in an awful state by the time her mom arrived to save the day.

We relocated to the living room where Larissa took a spot on the floor in front of the couch and mom went to work.

Little brother wanted mom and cried. Larissa hid her face, and her mom explained that it’s okay. The two of them are very close and Larissa hates when he cries.

Mom got the hair freed up and all the abuse from the failed attempts caused it to puff up double it’s normal volume.

Her hair is full volume anyway, but this event made it huge.

Live sitting after the hair incident. She asked for a horse, owls, feathers, and an Indian theme.

I drew it in with charcoal then began painting.

Then I drew it with brown paint. I decided to set my perspective origin above the landing.

Larissa is a reader, so books were added beneath the stairs.

This is as far as I’ve gotten.
