While it dries in preparation for the finish coat that will polish this one to it’s potential let me tell you about Cecilia who among other attributes has an angelic expression in sleep. Even some infants look stressed in the depths of night, but not this girl. She looks calm and serene. So I waited until I could catch her on camera and that got me a start.
I haven’t done ten oil paintings in all my life, but now that I’ve become comfortable with the medium I prefer it. Usually the pictures come together in numerous layers. This is not an exception, except that this first layer is certainly richer in expression than is usual for the first sitting. I prepared the canvas years ago so it’s good and dry. I stretched cotton canvas, primed it, and followed that with a dark under coat. Then it waited its turn.
The approach I used down right joyous with very wet paint and a reliance on the brown base layer showing through. The blanket is accented with high quality holographic glitter. It’s spectacular.
