It was years after we moved out into the country in a forest before I realized that that one persistent chirp was not a bird but a squirrel. Well now another mystery has been solved because I have found that the larger nests are not from birds.

A squirrel ran along the road with something white in its mouth. Up a tree it went. Down into that nest. When it emerged, the white thing was gone.
