Lots of Orange, Red, and Green

When I painted this rendition of Utah Mountains I was testing the various oil mediums that I’d bought. This helped rule out safflower and poppy seed oils. Whereas I read that they would dry glossy, the opposite was true. I let it dry a couple of years then finally varnished it this  week. This is on a wood panel. Masonite, I believe. To prepare the panel,  I sand it then prime it and then often paint both sides. Then it’s ready for the image.

My oldest grand son has proclaimed orange his favorite color, so this somewhat exaggerated fall scene might work for him.

I’ve driven the freeway that’s at the base of these mountains many times and have always loved the sight of them. There are graduated layers of different types of stone and vegetation and preciptation that makes them beautiful to behold.

Meanwhile, I’m working on a painting inspired by Juliette Rose, who will build a bouquette of wild flowers ever time we walk together, if they can be found. This one is on a wood panel. I’m keeping the colors bold.
