In a sense, the people pictures I’ve done are of stand in Muses. Technically, I have no “muse” according to my understanding of the word. That is, someone who is on hand and involved regularly. I’m fortunate to have beautiful family, friends, and children of friends who let me paint them. They inspire me. But if there were such a person, I wonder how much of this description would fit her. It certainly fits those I’ve painted, each to a greater or lesser degree. If it doesn’t, well then I’m fooled and that’s fine. They’re not all all of these points, but they’re all found in this description. Really. There is beauty in them.
It’s true, children grow up to be “just people” and even fabulous grown ups step away from their glory from time to time. I see the beautiful part of them and maybe that’s not such a bad thing to document. I hope they all stay wonderful, but if they stray for a time there’s no harm in the record of them during sweeter days. In fairness, I can also paint a great painting of a wonderful car at it’s very best and later the car can get wrecked or break down. Which way do you want to remember it? Yes. at it’s best. All good!
