Among my early favorites and a painting that has cost me the most time, is “Circles”.
72″ X 36″ Acrylic on canvas..
It started as a kelp forest. They’re beautiful and I wanted a painting of one.
I rounded up as many kelp forest photos as I could find and designed a picture. In the process I discovered some things that made me distrust the accuracy of my painting. I had painted in the girl before learning that such places thrive in cold water. Drat. I painted out everything but her. Then I got with a scuba diver friend and she provided me with pictures she had taken in Clear Lake. So I painted the background using Clear Lake as the guide.
Eventually I realized I’d made some technical errors in the composition, so now I’m planning the corrections.
