Bamboo, It’s Not That Bad

I was warned not to plant bamboo by people using  words like, “regret” and “takes over”, but I went ahead to block people from gawking at my children who were often on the trampoline.

We used it in photo shoots a few times and after that there was no chance that I’d take my little forest away.

Occasionally there have been vandals, breaking it or stealing parts. For a while the local school kids congregated in it to smoke pot and make noise and pee on my fence.

For the first year or two it was disarmingly unlike the sci-fi monster fate I’d been told to expect. Eventually, long after the girls grew up and moved out, the bamboo spread out and made a place for itself.

I still like it.

<<sadly it appears that the bamboo is suffering death by cretin. It’s dying. All of it. Sudden and complete. May 2018>>
