Say what you will about children having a lot to learn, they come in my experience pretty well appointed with admirable qualities that life seems intent on trying to route out of them in it’s wake.
I go on walks with grand children and while they may not represent all kids, I’d like to think they are pretty close. It may be a reflection on their home environment. They don’t get much television and almost no computer games gobble up their time. Instead, they read and go to parks.
One is six, one is 4. Sometimes the teens come along. It’s all the same in some respects.
The conversation is pleasant. No matter how bad the weather is, no one seems to notice.
The 4 year old usually holds my hand. We all cross intersections at the same time. I have to be able to manage two or three conversations simultaneously.
The overall mood and feel of the outing is so good that I’m left believing I just experienced the answer to this old bit of prose:
If one came down from Heaven to wander in this place
What would it be to know them, to see their face?
Chief musicians notice a master in the room
others know not the talent, but still appreciate the tune
Magical creatures exist. I know some of them.
