The Lake Fingerlings

I don’t know exactly when a fish stops being a fingerling, maybe when they are bigger than a finger.

A morning visit to a local lake brought joy. Armed with the ‘big camera’ and a little point and shoot I went straight to the lower trail that is close to the waters edge.

Morning is best. The swimmers haven’t arrived yet and the sun is low. The surface of the water is glossy and calm.

A couple were in the cordoned off swimming area embracing the whole time I was at the lake. While descending the steep road to the shore I saw that though they were still as they faced each other talking low, their ripples ever so slight had extended half way across the lake.

An old man and some perky children were on a dock, excited with fishing poles.

My point and shoot camera has poor contrast handling but has an adjustable focal length from 24mm to 70mm. The other camera is superior in every way but has a fixed length 60mm lens. So capturing the sights that I want would be a challenge.

I decided to use the big camera, a Nikon D800 and stitch pictures together.

That didn’t end so well. I edited the images all the next day.

But I did piece together this of little fingerlings in their glowing under-log world with a maple canopy for even more shade.
