Today was for testing and it went pretty well. Before summer even started I was in that main bathroom of my house commencing repairs.
Ultimately, I gutted the room of much of its contents. I found the boards on the floor joists to be sound, except for one which I replaced. Now I’ve installed a new cast iron ceramic coated tub and a new toilet and a proper ceramic tile floor. The tub and shower surround is new and the walls have been painted. It’s not finished yet, but the room is functioning as it should and I’m happy it doesn’t own me every day and that I can shower at home.
It seemed never ending and there were lots of surprises. All of them cost more money and more time.
I learned about tile and picked up some nice understandings about plumbing including lead caulking cast iron pipe and leak stoppage in and under sinks. I finally figured out how to operate a caulk gun to lay down competently done beads.
And after all that, it seems like a very straightforward maintenance project because I have had time to absorb what I learned. Sorting out the procedures and learning the mysteries took the greater share of my time.
So today I finally took a shower at home. It’s been awhile.
